Girls on the Line
Girls on the Line by Jennie Liu
This new novel came with our Junior Library Guild monthly order. It is told from two perspectives of Luli and Yun. Both were raised in a Chinese orphanage, in a country where there is a One Child Policy. When they turn sixteen they are forced to leave the orphanage and find jobs in a factory. For hours each day they assemble USB cords and packaging for companies. With the job comes money and some freedoms. Never living on the outside hardhearted world, Luli and Yun find themselves making life and death decisions. Yun is emotionally a mess when she discovers she is pregnant, homeless and penniless. She unknowingly and naively becomes involved in a human trafficking situation. However, Luli, once had a family and knows the value of relationships, works to save Yun from destruction. Can she succeed?
A very real situation that will leave you on the edge of your seat!
